Technical Director – Geotechnical (Auckland)

About the role
We are seeking a Technical Director – Geotechnical to lead and expand our geotechnical capability in Auckland. This senior leadership position will combine technical expertise with strategic oversight to deliver high‑quality outcomes for public and private sector clients.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of around 10 geotechnical engineers, providing technical direction, coaching and career development.
- Build capability and foster a collaborative team culture.
- Drive client engagement, develop senior client relationships and win new work.
- Lead bids, proposals and presentations, converting opportunities into secured contracts.
- Own commercial performance, overseeing project profitability, resourcing and risk.
- Support pricing strategies and commercial decision‑making.
- Provide technical leadership on complex, high‑profile projects, reviewing and signing off key deliverables and Producer Statements.
- Offer expert advice on ground risk, design and construction, and collaborate across transport, water, buildings and structural teams.
- Leverage global expertise and contribute to wider practice leadership.
Required profile
- Degree in geotechnical or civil engineering.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent.
- Auckland Council Producer Statement Author (PS1) or ability to obtain.
- Typically 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
- Proven track record in client relationship management, work winning, team leadership and commercial project management.
- Strong technical capability in ground characterisation, geotechnical design, foundations, earthworks, slope stability and infrastructure projects.

- Proficiency with Plaxis.
- Proficiency with Rocscience.
- Proficiency with GeoStudio.
