Technical Accounting Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Accounting Manager to join BDO’s Quality & Ethics team in New Zealand. In this position you will provide technical accounting and financial‑reporting support to audit and advisory teams, research complex accounting issues and help ensure high‑quality client engagements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on GAAP, NZ IFRS and PBE standards.
• Support engagement teams with complex accounting treatments and reporting decisions.
• Review financial statements and disclosures for quality and compliance.
• Develop and maintain model financial statements, templates and technical resources.
• Deliver training and guidance to uplift capability across the network.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives within the Quality & Ethics team.
• Build strong relationships across teams, acting as a trusted technical partner.

Required profile

• Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting standards (NZ IFRS, PBE, GAAP).
• Manager‑level experience in audit or a technical accounting/reporting role.
• Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, practical advice.
• Confident communicator with strong stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• High attention to detail with sound judgement and decision‑making.
• Collaborative, values‑led approach focused on quality and integrity.
• CA qualified (or equivalent).
