Team Leader Data Management

About the role

The Team Leader Data Management will guide a multidisciplinary team of data specialists to deliver and maintain Environment Canterbury’s data platform, data warehouse, reporting and analysis services. You will shape the technical vision, champion innovative data solutions and ensure that data initiatives align with the council’s environmental and community objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and support a team that includes senior BI analysts, data warehouse architects, senior data engineers and data scientists.
• Contribute to the technical strategy and drive the implementation of modern data solutions.
• Establish, implement and uphold data standards, data quality and governance frameworks.
• Manage design artefacts, vendor relationships and ensure robust data infrastructure support.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to align data services with organisational goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
• Proven experience leading data‑focused teams and delivering large‑scale data platforms.
• Strong understanding of data governance, data quality and data architecture.
