Tax Senior Associate / New Manager – Napier

About the role

PwC New Zealand is seeking a Tax Senior Associate or new Manager to join its Hawke’s Bay office in Napier. You will work with a diverse client portfolio, ranging from high‑net‑worth individuals and family trusts to private businesses and multinational corporations, delivering high‑quality tax advice and compliance services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical tax advice to a varied client base, including individuals, trusts, private businesses, and large corporates.
• Manage your own client portfolio and nurture relationships.
• Prepare and review technical compliance work such as tax effect accounting, IFRS tax note disclosures, and tax returns.
• Coach and support Associates, contributing to team development and culture.
• Identify risk areas and sustainable planning opportunities across the tax life‑cycle.
• Plan and deliver multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and excellent client outcomes.

Required profile

• Commerce, Accounting or Law degree.
• 3–4+ years of experience in a tax team (Big 4, second tier, in‑house, or law firm) with solid knowledge of New Zealand tax legislation.
• Strong analytical, detail‑driven and proactive mindset.
• Based in Hawke’s Bay or willing to relocate.

Required skills

• Proficiency in tax effect accounting and IFRS tax note disclosures.
• Strong accounting fundamentals and ability to interpret financial statements.
• Familiarity with Xero (XPM), Excel and data‑analytics tools; TaxLab experience is desirable.
