Tax Advisor – Fund Services

About the role

Mercer is looking for a Tax Advisor to join its NZ Fund Services team. The position is based in Wellington or Auckland and operates in a hybrid work model, offering flexibility while supporting the tax function for Mercer Funds in New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Support the NZ Tax Manager with income tax and PIE tax compliance for Mercer Funds.
• Collaborate with external tax advisors, registries, and custodians to ensure accurate tax information.
• Review annual income tax provisions, trust distributions, tax statements, and unit‑pricing tax accruals in line with internal policies.
• Ensure funds operate within relevant tax policies, procedures, and risk‑management frameworks.
• Contribute to tax‑related initiatives such as new business proposals, fund restructures, and product projects.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in business, accounting, tax, law, commerce or a related discipline (working towards CA is acceptable).
• 2‑3 years post‑qualification experience in tax roles; financial‑services experience is a plus.
• Strong technical knowledge of New Zealand tax policy, especially unit trusts and PIE taxation.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
