Systems Engineer – Level 1 (Nelson, NZ)

About the role

As a Systems Engineer Level 1 based in Nelson, you will provide end‑to‑end technical support across desktop, server, cloud and network environments for sites from the West Coast to Blenheim. The role combines remote assistance, onsite visits and travel between locations, using a company vehicle when required.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver remote and onsite support for desktop, server, cloud and network infrastructures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network issues, including vendor coordination.
• Configure, deploy and test PCs, servers and networking equipment; support virtual and cloud platforms such as VMware, Hyper‑V, Office 365, Google Workspace and MDM solutions.
• Maintain system security, performance and reliability through updates and best practices.
• Lead technical projects including desktop roll‑outs, server upgrades, cloud migrations and network implementations (switches, firewalls, VLANs).
• Liaise with clients and vendors, providing status updates, reports and technical guidance.
• Support IT planning, incident management and continuous process improvement; maintain accurate documentation and timesheets.

Required profile

• NZ citizen or permanent resident with a full or restricted NZ driver’s licence.
• Willingness to travel between sites and use a company vehicle.
• Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience; industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Microsoft Fundamentals are preferred.
• Strong knowledge of networking (TCP/IP), security, virtualization and cloud environments.
• Experience in server and desktop deployment and support.
