Strategic Procurement Lead

About the role

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is seeking a Strategic Procurement Lead to shape procurement strategy across key business portfolios. Based in Wellington or Auckland, you will partner with senior leaders to deliver complex programmes that drive innovation, value, sustainability and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement category strategies that deliver measurable procurement outcomes.
• Lead end‑to‑end sourcing, contract establishment and supplier relationship management.
• Provide expert advice to senior leaders and act as a trusted procurement advisor.
• Mentor and guide the procurement team, contributing to governance, reporting and continuous improvement.
• Ensure procurement decisions align with public sector frameworks and deliver commercial benefits.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading strategic procurement and sourcing programmes in project or service delivery environments.
• Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills and ability to manage high‑value, high‑risk procurements.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders, manage complex stakeholder environments and build trusted partnerships.
• Knowledge of public sector procurement policies and frameworks (preferred).
• Analytical, problem‑solving and performance‑management capabilities.
• Tertiary qualification in a related discipline or equivalent experience; CIPS membership preferred.
