Story Development Producer

About the role
The Story Development Producer works at the heart of the newsroom, planning daily coverage, shaping compelling story ideas and coordinating news content across multiple platforms. Reporting to the Head of Story Development and Operations, the role ensures audiences receive timely, engaging news.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and plan stories for daily news consumption across television, digital and current affairs platforms.
- Create and maintain a news diary and daily coverage plan in collaboration with reporters, editors and platform stakeholders.
- Allocate resources efficiently and monitor editorial developments throughout the news cycle.
- Develop and nurture sources within PR agencies and other organisations to generate story ideas.
- Manage story budgets, ensuring costs stay within agreed limits.
Required profile
- Proven experience in story development and planning across multiple media platforms.
- Strong editorial judgement and high editorial integrity.
- Excellent knowledge of the television, digital news and current‑affairs industry, including relevant legislation and codes.
- Ability to make decisive decisions under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
Required skills
- Budget management experience.
- Familiarity with operational and production processes, including new technology.
