Specialist Pain Medicine Physician

About the role

We are seeking a Specialist Pain Medicine Physician to join the Pain Management Centre at Burwood Hospital, Waitaha Canterbury. The role can be full‑time or part‑time on a permanent basis, working within an interdisciplinary team that supports patients with chronic non‑malignant pain.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver outpatient pain clinics and coordinate multidisciplinary treatment plans.
• Perform interventional pain procedures and oversee occasional inpatient admissions.
• Contribute to the rebuilding of the service and support the centre’s pursuit of Faculty of Pain Medicine accreditation.
• Collaborate with physiotherapists, psychologists, nurses and other specialists to optimise patient outcomes.

Required profile

• Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Qualification that meets the Faculty of Pain Medicine (Australia & New Zealand) standards, or successful completion of the self‑assessment process.
• Holistic experience working within a multidisciplinary pain team.

Required skills

• Expertise in pain medicine and chronic pain management.
• Proficiency in interventional pain procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary clinical setting.
