Shepherd General – Livestock Management

About the role

Join the energetic team at Weka Farm as a Shepherd General, working closely with the Farm Manager to oversee livestock and pasture operations on a 1,484‑hectare property near Lake Brunner.

Key responsibilities

• Manage livestock health, welfare and pasture utilisation.
• Perform general farm maintenance, including fence upkeep.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Required profile

• Passionate about farming and animal welfare.
• Practical, self‑motivated and eager to improve processes.
• Comfortable working outdoors and able to communicate clearly within a team.
• Willingness to work with or develop a team of working dogs.
• Valid restricted or full driver licence.

Required skills

• Use of farm technology for monitoring and data entry.
• Accurate record‑keeping of livestock and farm activities.
