Senior Water Infrastructure Designer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Designer to join Egis’ water team in Wellington (with the possibility to work from Christchurch). The role focuses on delivering high‑quality civil designs for water infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with New Zealand standards and supporting the growth of a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop preliminary and detailed designs for water‑related civil works, including linear designs, land development, storm‑water systems, pump stations and flood‑modelling.
• Produce construction documentation, specifications and design drawings that meet statutory, regulatory and company requirements.
• Prepare schedules, allocate resources and manage design deliverables to stay on time and within budget.
• Ensure all designs comply with New Zealand (and where relevant Australian) design codes and standards.
• Mentor junior designers, provide technical guidance and review their work.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of civil design experience in a consultancy or professional services environment, primarily on water infrastructure projects.
• Associate degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, or demonstrable senior‑level experience.
• Strong knowledge of NZ civil design standards; familiarity with Australian standards is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
