Senior Tax Manager – 6‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

Westpac is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join its New Zealand tax team on a six‑month fixed‑term contract. Reporting to the Head of Tax, you will provide both advisory and compliance support across a large, complex financial services environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide commercial, technically sound tax advice on business activities and transactions.
• Monitor tax law changes and assess their impact on the organisation.
• Ensure compliance with tax obligations and contribute to effective tax risk management.
• Support accurate tax reporting and the preparation of returns for the Group.
• Engage with Inland Revenue, resolve queries and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Mentor junior team members and help build overall team capability.

Required profile

• Chartered Accountant / CPA or qualified lawyer.
• At least 10 years of tax experience in a Big 4, legal or corporate setting.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand tax, preferably with exposure to financial services.
• Proven ability to deliver pragmatic, commercial advice in complex environments.
• Experience interacting with tax authorities and managing stakeholder relationships.
• Collaborative approach with strong communication and influencing skills.
