Senior System Engineer

About the role

NorthCloud is looking for a Senior System Engineer to join our Whangārei office. This full‑time position involves designing, implementing and supporting reliable IT solutions for a diverse client base while also maintaining our internal systems. You will work closely with account managers, engineers and vendors, travelling to client sites and occasionally working from home.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver IT projects and upgrades for small to large organisations.
• Act as senior escalation point for complex infrastructure, networking and cloud issues.
• Provide day‑to‑day operational support, SLA visits and hands‑on client work.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal standards, documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Assist with technical scoping, solution design and implementation planning.

Required profile

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within a team.
• Confidence engaging directly with customers, stakeholders and vendors.
• Proven experience in a senior or advanced systems engineering role.
• Passion for problem‑solving, learning new technologies and taking ownership of outcomes.
• Current New Zealand driver’s licence; certifications are advantageous but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, Remote Desktop Services.
• Microsoft 365, Azure / Entra ID and hybrid cloud environments.
• Windows desktop, Microsoft Office, virtualization and storage platforms.
• Networking technologies – firewalls, switching, Wi‑Fi.
• IT security practices – backup, MFA, endpoint protection.
