Senior Strategic Communications Lead

About the role

This pivotal senior role sits at the centre of our Corporate Communications team, shaping how we connect with New Zealanders. Based in Wellington, you will combine strategic leadership with hands‑on delivery across internal and external channels, focusing on media, reputation and issues management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end strategic communications across internal and external channels.
• Own media engagement, reputation management and proactive storytelling.
• Act as a trusted advisor, translating complex issues into clear messages and direction.
• Support senior leadership as the second‑in‑command, handling planning, prioritisation and delivery.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to shape aligned, enterprise‑wide messaging.
• Build team capability by coaching colleagues and raising standards and practices.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior communications roles within complex organisations.
• Strong media expertise and proven issues‑management experience.
• Ability to influence and advise senior leaders with confidence.
• Track record of building relationships and working across complexity.
• Collaborative approach focused on lifting team performance.
