Senior Solicitor

About the role

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is seeking an experienced Senior Solicitor to join its Legal Group in Wellington. You will provide high‑quality, solution‑focused legal advice on a wide range of environmental and public law matters.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely, accurate legal advice on EPA’s statutory functions.
• Advise on complex issues such as emissions trading, pesticide regulation, genetically modified organisms, major infrastructure projects, and marine consents for oil, gas and seabed mining.
• Provide counsel on broader public‑law matters, including the Crown Entities Act, compliance, litigation, procurement and other corporate services.
• Collaborate with internal clients and external stakeholders to develop practical, evidence‑based solutions.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience as a lawyer.
• Senior‑level experience advising on public law, litigation and commercial matters.
• Excellent analytical abilities and a track record of delivering practical, solution‑focused advice.
• Proactive approach to identifying legal issues and offering clear recommendations.
