Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Stuff is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to act as a technical second‑in‑command, partnering with Tech Leads to shape architecture, raise quality standards and mentor the engineering team. You will work on high‑impact products that reach over two million New Zealanders each month.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable, secure, high‑performing web applications and APIs.
• Influence architecture and set technical direction across the stack.
• Mentor engineers and champion best‑practice engineering.
• Drive innovation using AI, automation and emerging technologies.
• Collaborate with Product, Design and Data teams to deliver customer value.
• Improve performance, accessibility and platform reliability.
• Contribute to Agile delivery and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering experience with proven technical leadership.
• Experience building modern web applications, APIs and cloud‑based solutions.
• Passion for mentoring, collaboration and continuous learning.
• Interest in applying AI to software development and user experiences.
