Senior Service Designer

About the role

As a Senior Service Designer in the People & Capability group, you will lead high‑priority initiatives that tackle complex organisational challenges. You will shape how services are designed, delivered and continuously improved, working across boundaries with a systems‑thinking and human‑centred approach.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end service and system design projects from problem definition through implementation and evaluation.
• Apply strategic problem framing, human‑centred design and systems thinking to create future‑state service experiences.
• Conduct research, analysis and synthesis to generate actionable insights and design recommendations.
• Plan and facilitate workshops, co‑design sessions and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Collaborate with senior leaders, subject‑matter experts and users to ensure sustainable, achievable service improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Senior Service Designer leading complex initiatives.
• Strong expertise in strategic problem framing, human‑centred design and systems thinking.
• Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity across interconnected systems, processes, technology and policy.
• Excellent communication, storytelling and visualisation skills for senior‑level audiences.

• Fixed‑term contract until 30 June 2027.
• Salary range: $104,985 – $148,214 NZD per year (mid‑point $123,511).
