About the role

The West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island is seeking a Senior Rural Generalist Medical Officer to join a multidisciplinary team delivering high‑quality care across a broad clinical scope. You will work in a supportive environment that values diversity, inclusion, and career development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary, urgent, and emergency care to the West Coast community.
• Deliver general medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, and obstetrics/gynaecology services.
• Collaborate with in‑house specialists and external partners for comprehensive patient management.
• Contribute to the Rural Generalist model, ensuring equitable, high‑level care.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and support tertiary transfer processes.

Required profile

• Vocational registration (e.g., FDRHMNZ or FRNZCGP) with a desire to pursue dual fellowship.
• Eligibility to register with the New Zealand Medical Council.
• Experience appropriate for a senior medical officer in a rural setting.
• Commitment to working in a small, isolated community.

Required skills

• Clinical competence across primary care, emergency medicine, general medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, and obstetrics/gynaecology.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
