Senior Recruitment Advisor – Operations (12‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Join the New Zealand Customs Service as a Senior Recruitment Advisor Operations on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis. You will work within a collaborative recruitment team, supporting frontline operational hiring and helping to attract talent that protects and promotes Aotearoa New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Provide best‑practice recruitment advice and support across a busy operational portfolio.
• Design and deliver fit‑for‑purpose selection processes, including work tests, assessment activities and structured interviews.
• Build strong relationships with hiring managers and senior leaders, communicating clearly and confidently.
• Coordinate assessment activities, interview schedules and other selection tools.
• Maintain momentum in recruitment processes through strong planning, organisation and attention to detail.
• Ensure a positive candidate experience by keeping applicants informed and engaged.
• Collaborate with the recruitment team to meet the Customs work programme objectives.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in recruitment, preferably in operational or high‑volume environments.
• Experience coordinating bulk recruitment processes, including assessment centre‑style activities and structured selection (desirable).
• Proactive, detail‑focused attitude with the ability to roll up sleeves and get things done.
• Strong communication skills and confidence in advising senior stakeholders.
