About the role

Senior Project Manager – Masterton – Higgins is seeking an experienced civil engineering professional to lead bidding, delivery and team performance across the Wairarapa region. This key leadership position focuses on winning work, delivering high‑quality civil infrastructure projects and guiding people to achieve safe, efficient and commercially successful outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the bidding and tendering process, ensuring competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Identify and secure new work opportunities and build long‑term client relationships.
  • Manage day‑to‑day project delivery to meet programme, budget and quality targets.
  • Provide accurate monthly reporting including financials, health & safety, environmental and quality assurance.
  • Proactively manage project risks, cost‑to‑complete forecasting and contract obligations.
  • Oversee all quality assurance documentation to ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • Manage subcontractors, suppliers and internal resources to deliver works efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental and regulatory standards.
  • Lead, coach and develop project teams to achieve high performance.
  • Collaborate with other Project Managers and branches to balance resources.

Required profile

  • Engineering diploma or degree (preferred) with strong civil engineering background.
  • Proven project management experience in civil infrastructure.
  • Technical understanding of aggregates, asphalt and construction materials.
  • Strong people leadership skills and ability to inspire and hold others accountable.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Contracts Act and NZS 3910.
  • Solid understanding of health & safety requirements in civil construction.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
  • Commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting and reporting.
  • Ability to challenge methodologies constructively and drive continuous improvement.
