Senior Project Manager

About the role

Leighs Construction is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead one of New Zealand’s most technically demanding infrastructure projects. Based initially in Christchurch and later transitioning to the Templeton site, you will be at the centre of a landmark 24/7 facility delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead project delivery ensuring safety, quality, profitability and programme targets are met, with defect‑free completion ahead of contractual dates.
• Build and manage high‑performing project teams, conduct performance reviews, set KPIs and support staff development.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare and manage detailed master construction programmes, task methodologies and risk registers, implementing action plans as issues arise.
• Oversee procurement activities, including subcontractor and supplier negotiations, pre‑acceptance meetings and approvals within delegated authority.
• Manage documentation, change orders and financial performance in collaboration with the project QS, handling variations, payment claims, cash‑flow and expenditure approvals.
• Drive quality assurance and health‑and‑safety compliance, managing critical risks across all delivery phases.
