Senior Payroll Officer

About the role

The Senior Payroll Officer will ensure that payroll for Wētā FX’s world‑class visual effects teams is processed accurately and on time each week. Working in a hybrid setting, you will be part of a collaborative environment that supports the delivery of iconic films.

Key responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll for all employees and contractors, verifying hours, rates and deductions.
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with local tax and employment legislation.
• Collaborate with finance, HR and production teams to resolve payroll queries quickly.
• Generate payroll reports and analytics for management review.
• Continuously improve payroll processes to support a fast‑paced, high‑performing studio.

Required profile

• Proven experience in payroll administration, preferably in a creative or entertainment setting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Payroll software operation (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar).
• Understanding of New Zealand payroll tax rules and regulations.
• Advanced Excel or spreadsheet proficiency.
