Senior Operations Specialist

About the role

As a Senior Operations Specialist within the Institutional Operations team, you will support ANZ Treasury and the Markets business by managing payment exceptions that arise from ISO 20022 Hybrid Address requirements. The role ensures that payments which cannot be processed straight‑through are reviewed, repaired, and released in line with ANZ policy and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all payment repairs are completed accurately and consistently according to ISO 20022 Hybrid Address requirements and ANZ standards.
• Manage complex or high‑risk payment exceptions and support the resolution of escalated issues.
• Provide technical coaching and guidance to Operations Specialists on payment repair practices and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor exception volumes, identify root causes, and drive process improvements to increase straight‑through processing rates.
• Support quality‑assurance activities, control obligations, and operational risk management.
• Act as a subject‑matter expert for ISO 20022 payment processing requirements and associated operational impacts.

Required profile

• Experience in payments operations, banking operations, or transaction processing.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Experience managing operational queues in a fast‑paced processing environment.
• Understanding of SWIFT and/or ISO 20022 payment standards (training can be provided).
• A growth mindset and willingness to develop skills on the job.
