Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

ZURU Tech is building the world’s first BIM‑driven modular housing system. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will own the mechanical design of core products, guiding them from concept through to compliance and real‑world installation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical components for ZURU House using SolidWorks across structural, MEP and façade categories.
• Own the full design cycle, delivering manufacture‑ready outputs.
• Build, test and iterate in‑house prototypes, documenting results and driving multiple test cycles.
• Map design changes to system‑wide impacts and coordinate with owners of adjacent products.
• Work with compliance specialists to embed building‑code requirements for each target market.
• Collaborate across teams in New Zealand, Los Angeles, China and Italy, aligning design intent and delivery timelines.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and support product development through to installation and long‑term use.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design for construction or prefabricated housing.
• Ability to lead product development independently and manage cross‑functional dependencies.
• Strong communication skills for global, multi‑time‑zone collaboration.
• Track record of delivering design improvements through iterative testing.
