Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Propulsion

About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead process improvements and product revisions for the Rutherford rocket engine. Based in the Auckland Production Complex, you will support the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and the broader production organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and document production processes, testing procedures, health and safety requirements, and supervisor sign‑offs.
• Collaborate with the quality team to resolve engineering quality issues and lead root‑cause and corrective‑action investigations.
• Design, develop, and implement tooling and equipment to improve quality, delivery, and cost performance.
• Drive continuous improvement using lean tools such as 5S and introduce automation where appropriate.
• Ensure equipment data integrates directly with MRP and quality systems.
• Participate in design reviews as an expert in design for manufacture, design for test, productivity, supplier capability, and quality control.
• Conduct value‑stream mapping, method‑of‑manufacture planning, cell design, factory layout, equipment selection, and FAT activities.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in manufacturing engineering within aerospace or high‑tech environments.
• Strong ability to lead cross‑functional teams and communicate with senior leadership.
• Experience delivering process improvements on time and within budget.
• Hands‑on expertise in lean manufacturing, automation, and tooling development.
