About the role

Join the Operational Legal Services and Business Registries team at MBIE as a Senior Legal Technical Advisor. This Auckland‑based permanent position offers the chance to develop practical legal and regulatory expertise while supporting the integrity of New Zealand’s business registers.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse regulatory and operational matters across PPSR, NZBN, Companies Register, director prohibitions and related enquiries.
• Prepare clear written material such as correspondence, reports and internal guidance.
• Interpret and apply legislation in practical settings, providing advice to internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the improvement of processes, procedures and guidance for register‑related work.
• Manage priorities, follow issues through to completion and seek support when needed.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification with strong analytical, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Curiosity, good judgment and careful information handling.
• Confidence working with systems or a quick learning ability for new platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Ability to interpret and apply legislation in operational contexts.
