Senior Legal Counsel – Technology

About the role

PwC New Zealand is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with a technology focus to join its Office of the General Counsel in Auckland. You will work within a collaborative internal services team, providing in‑house legal support across the firm and helping shape the company’s approach to emerging technology and data privacy challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate and draft complex technology agreements, including SI/ERP contracts, statements of work, managed services, SaaS licensing and master service agreements.
• Support bids, tenders and strategic client contracts to achieve commercially workable outcomes.
• Advise on AI‑enabled services, develop standard AI contracting positions and playbooks.
• Partner with Risk and Procurement on strategic supplier negotiations and vendor‑risk assessments.
• Provide pragmatic guidance on privacy and data‑handling in commercial arrangements and respond to regulatory changes.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, especially those affecting AI and privacy, and keep the firm updated.
• Answer ad‑hoc legal queries across the business with clear, solution‑focused advice.

Required profile

• Current New Zealand legal practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
• At least 6 years post‑qualification experience in commercial or technology law, either in‑house or at a law firm.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk, client relationships and business objectives.
• Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to build credibility across legal, risk and business teams.
