Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

This part‑time Senior Legal Counsel position supports JB Hi‑Fi New Zealand’s fast‑growing retail business. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will provide high‑quality legal advice across commercial, consumer, privacy and intellectual property matters while working three days a week on‑site with hybrid flexibility.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts.
• Assess and advise on promotional and marketing campaigns for legal compliance.
• Provide counsel on consumer law, privacy regulations and intellectual property issues.
• Deliver legal compliance training to internal stakeholders.
• Support new business initiatives and projects with pragmatic legal solutions.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a New Zealand practising certificate or eligibility to obtain one.
• Minimum six years post‑qualification experience in private practice or in‑house, preferably with exposure to commercial or consumer law.
• Strong analytical ability and proven contract drafting/negotiation skills.
• Capability to work independently and deliver commercially focused advice.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build trusted relationships.
• Adaptable, proactive mindset suited to a fast‑paced environment.
