Senior Legal & Commercial Advisor

About the role

Mercury is seeking a Senior Legal & Commercial Advisor to join its Generation and Generation Development teams on a 6‑8 month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of extension. The role will support nationally significant renewable energy and infrastructure projects, providing pragmatic legal and commercial advice that aligns with Mercury’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide risk‑based legal counsel on development and infrastructure projects, including construction, procurement, property, resource management, offtake, and O&M agreements.
• Draft, review and negotiate contractual arrangements for major projects and infrastructure delivery.
• Manage disputes arising from development activities and infrastructure works.
• Advise on electricity wholesale market arrangements, such as physical supply agreements, derivatives and financial transmission rights.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders and external legal providers to ensure consistent, commercially sound outcomes.

Required profile

• 8‑10 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, energy or related sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, build strong relationships and quickly understand complex project environments.
• Strong commercial acumen and experience advising senior business leaders.

Required skills

• Expertise in commercial and contract law for large‑scale projects.
• Knowledge of renewable energy, electricity market structures and related regulatory frameworks.
• Proficiency in dispute resolution and risk management.
