Senior Human Resources Advisor

About the role

We are seeking a confident and experienced Senior Human Resources Advisor to join the People and Safety Group at NZTA. In this trusted advisory role you will partner with business leaders to shape workforce strategy, manage employment relations and drive HR excellence across a complex public‑sector environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute workforce plans aligned with NZTA’s strategic objectives, including hiring, succession and diversity initiatives.
• Guide leaders through performance, remuneration and talent‑management processes.
• Manage employment‑relations cases and support union consultation and legal compliance.
• Lead change‑management projects and ensure adherence to employment legislation.
• Coach and support people leaders to confidently handle people‑related activities.
• Contribute to the development of inclusive HR practices and leadership capability.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an HR practitioner in a large, complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of HR fundamentals, employment law and compliance.
• Ability to align HR strategies with business goals and drive change.
• Excellent relationship‑building, influencing and communication skills.
• Demonstrated capability to coach leaders and handle difficult conversations with empathy.
