Senior Flight Software Engineer

About the role

Rocket Lab’s Space Systems Software team is looking for a Senior Flight Software Engineer to lead the development of cutting‑edge flight software for spacecraft in orbit, next‑generation autonomous satellite constellations, and embedded systems for hardware products such as thrusters, reaction wheels, and radios.

Key responsibilities

• Architect flight software solutions across sustaining engineering, autonomous constellations, and embedded hardware products.
• Lead system trade studies and design collaborations with Avionics, GNC, and Operations teams, balancing technical excellence with schedule and budget constraints.
• Develop and maintain robust regression testing frameworks that span flight software and embedded product lines.
• Guide multi‑disciplinary engineering teams through anomaly resolution and technical decision‑making.

Required profile

• Senior‑level technical expert with extensive experience in flight software development for spacecraft.
• Proven ability to work on autonomous satellite constellations and embedded hardware products.
• Strong collaboration skills with hardware, guidance‑navigation‑control, and operations teams.
• Track record of delivering high‑quality software under schedule and budget pressures.
