Senior Financial Accountant

About the role

This senior financial accountant position sits within a large, well‑known New Zealand business. You will work closely with senior finance leaders, taking ownership of fixed assets, lease accounting, project accounting, tax support, month‑end reporting and process improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the group fixed‑asset process and related journal entries.
• Support lease accounting and produce monthly lease journals in line with NZ IFRS 16.
• Prepare income tax, deferred tax and provisional tax calculations.
• Oversee end‑to‑end project accounting for capital and operating expenditure projects.
• Prepare month‑end journals, accruals, balance‑sheet reconciliations and reporting support.
• Liaise with external auditors at half‑year and year‑end.
• Assist with statutory reporting, R&D tax credit claims and revenue accounting.
• Collaborate with technology and finance teams to improve, automate and document processes.
• Contribute to finance transformation, future‑state process design and FMIS transition work.
• Coach and develop one direct report.

Required profile

• 5+ years of financial accounting and reporting experience, or 3+ years specialising in asset accounting.
• Strong background in fixed‑asset, lease accounting, month‑end close and balance‑sheet reconciliation.
• Experience with finance systems, process improvements or reporting projects.
• Relevant accounting qualification (CA qualified or working towards).
• Big 4 experience advantageous but not essential.
• Exposure to income‑tax returns or tax calculations beneficial.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive, improvement‑focused mindset.
