Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

About the role

OceanaGold is seeking a Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to provide technical support and leadership for the Waihi underground gold mine’s process control and automation systems. The role focuses on maintaining industrial networking, DCS, PLC platforms and the PI System/PI Vision, ensuring reliable and efficient plant operation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and support DCS, PLC, HMI, industrial network and PI System/PI Vision infrastructure to ensure reliability, availability and data integrity.
• Perform system health checks, backups, patching, fault finding and minor configuration or logic changes in line with site standards and change control.
• Support ongoing maintenance and development of the PI System, including tag integrity, data quality, visualisation performance and user support.
• Verify critical field instrumentation and control loops to support safe and stable plant operation.
• Lead or assist in fault finding, root cause analysis and corrective actions for automation, instrumentation and control system issues.
• Assist with control system upgrades, migrations and modifications, including testing, commissioning and change management.
• Provide high‑level technical support to maintenance and operations teams during breakdowns, shutdowns and planned work.

Required profile

• Strong background in electrical, instrumentation, automation or control systems within an industrial or mining environment.
• Ability to work across multiple technologies and support a wider maintenance team.
• Experience with fault finding, root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
• Proven capability to follow change control procedures and work safely in a high‑risk environment.
