Senior Design Engineer – Temporary Works

About the role

Brian Perry Civil’s Engineering Services team is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead temporary works design and provide technical support to construction teams across major projects in New Zealand. You will be responsible for delivering safe, practical, and compliant temporary structures from concept to construction documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Design temporary works from concept through to issued‑for‑construction documentation.
• Own designs end‑to‑end, asking the right questions and driving solutions forward.
• Collaborate with site teams to align design with construction sequencing and methodology.
• Coordinate structural, geotechnical and supplier inputs into a single, clear design outcome.
• Review designs for safety, practicality and compliance prior to issue.
• Inspect temporary works on site to confirm they are built and used as intended.

Required profile

• 5+ years’ experience as a Structural Design Engineer.
• Experience as a Temporary Works Engineer.
• BE in Civil/Structural engineering with 5+ years post‑study design experience.
• Knowledge of temporary works construction practices and constructability innovation techniques.
• Proven engineering design experience relevant to temporary works solutions.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and technical writing skills.
• Willingness to mentor and develop fellow engineers.
• Self‑driven approach with strong time‑management.
