Senior Construction Manager

About the role

Join WSP’s Construction Management team in Hawke’s Bay to lead the delivery of civil infrastructure projects that benefit local communities. As a Senior Construction Manager you will provide procurement, contract and construction management services, while offering technical leadership, commercial oversight and mentorship across project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Engineer’s Representative or Assistant during construction, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and industry standards.
• Prepare procurement and contract documentation, evaluate tenders and recommend contractor engagements.
• Manage project controls including programme scheduling, communications, risk, variations, change management, cash‑flow and budget tracking.
• Conduct investigations, inspections, engineering analysis and produce documentation to support successful outcomes.
• Monitor and report on financial, quality, risk and programme performance metrics.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
• Support business development by identifying opportunities and contributing to proposals and fee estimates.
• Mentor colleagues and promote best‑practice contract and construction management across teams.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of experience in contract and construction management within civil infrastructure.
• Experience acting as Engineer’s Representative or Contractor’s Representative on construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of NZS391X and contract administration principles.
• Proven ability to manage project controls such as scheduling, risk, variations, budgets and cash‑flow.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative, solutions‑focused attitude.
