Senior Compliance Officer – Prohibitions

About the role
Join the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) as a Senior Compliance Officer focused on director prohibitions. You will use your analytical mindset to assess evidence, interpret legislation and support regulatory decision‑making within the Companies Office.
Key responsibilities
- Assess referrals and information relating to potential director prohibitions under section 385 of the Companies Act 1993.
- Review material from insolvency practitioners, the Official Assignee and other sources to identify key issues and recommend next steps.
- Prepare clear written assessments, memoranda, notices and correspondence that inform decision‑making.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to clarify issues, gather additional information and ensure timely outcomes.
- Support broader Operational Legal Services and Business Registries activities, including information requests, reporting, complaints handling, quality assurance and process improvement.
Required profile
- A tertiary qualification with strong analytical, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
- Curiosity, good judgment and the capacity to work carefully through complex information and evidence.
- Confidence in interpreting and applying legislation in a practical regulatory setting.
- Ability to manage priorities, follow work through to completion and seek support when needed.
- Experience in a regulatory, compliance, legal support, government or analytical environment is advantageous.
Required skills
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation in a regulatory context.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly and accurately.
- Proficiency in working with systems, records and information, or a demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly.
