Senior Attorney – Oceania (Remote, Australia or New Zealand)

About the role

The Senior Attorney – Oceania will provide high‑value legal services on complex matters that support The Nature Conservancy’s conservation priorities across Australia, New Zealand and the broader Asia‑Pacific region. This is a fully remote position for candidates located in, or willing to relocate to, Australia or New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Structure transactions, projects and activities to align with organizational goals and risk management policies.
• Review and draft a wide range of contracts, including grants, leases, licenses, purchases, sales, insurance and easements.
• Advise program teams, influence decision‑makers and serve as the primary legal contact for multiple business units.
• Manage outside counsel, oversee special projects and provide guidance to junior attorneys and support staff.
• Address governance issues for related entities and travel occasionally as required.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate (or equivalent) with a current licence to practice law and willingness to obtain a licence in an Asia‑Pacific jurisdiction.
• Minimum 3 years of practising law in Australia and/or New Zealand, or at least 5 years of relevant legal experience elsewhere.
• Proven experience negotiating complex transactions and agreements.
• Demonstrated ability to work across cultures and time zones.

Required skills

• Familiarity with legal tools and emerging technologies, including AI‑assisted research.
