Senior Android Mobile Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Mobile Engineer you will help bring Air New Zealand’s digital ambition to life by building high‑performing Android applications that millions of customers rely on for searching, booking, managing and enjoying their journeys.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain advanced Android applications supporting millions of interactions each year.
• Contribute to scalable, secure and high‑performance architecture that enables rapid product evolution.
• Collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers and backend engineers to translate ideas into elegant mobile solutions.
• Improve app performance, reliability and maintainability through continuous optimisation.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex bugs and performance issues.
• Champion modern Android practices and uplift engineering standards across the squad.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of Android development experience, preferably in large‑scale or complex environments.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, with working knowledge of Java.
• Strong understanding of the Android SDK, RESTful APIs and modern mobile architecture patterns.
• Experience with Swift, backend‑for‑frontend patterns, deployments or AWS is advantageous.
• Experience using AI tooling to enhance development workflows.
• Passion for clean, maintainable code and delivering quality at pace.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative product environment.
