Senior Android Engineer

About the role

The Senior Android Engineer will join a fast‑growing team in Auckland, designing, building and maintaining high‑quality Android applications. You will work on‑site full‑time, collaborating with product, design and engineering peers to deliver performant, reliable, and user‑centric mobile experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and ship core features for Android apps, ensuring they are intuitive, performant and reliable.
• Write clean, testable Kotlin/Java code and conduct thorough code reviews.
• Optimize existing functionality, troubleshoot issues and enforce best practices in mobile development.
• Collaborate on architecture decisions, influence technical direction and contribute to long‑term strategy.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitrise) and automate release processes.
• Mentor junior engineers, produce documentation and stay current with Android platform updates and emerging technologies.
• Leverage generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot to improve productivity.

Required profile

• 6+ years of native Android development experience using modern frameworks.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Proven track record of shipping at least one production app on Google Play.
• Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines and delivering high‑quality code.
• Strong problem‑solving, collaboration and communication skills.
• Passion for quality, accessibility, performance and a collaborative engineering culture.

Required skills

• Android development with Kotlin/Java.
• AndroidX, Jetpack, Hilt, Coroutines.
• CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and Bitrise.
• Generative AI tools (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot).
