About the role
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is seeking a Senior Advisor Communications to join its Wellington office. This fixed‑term position (until 31 May 2028) will support the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms group by shaping internal and external messaging across multiple channels. The role blends strategic planning with hands‑on media management, ensuring EPA’s work is clearly communicated to the public and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with business groups to identify reputational risks and communication opportunities.
- Develop and deliver communications for EPA projects, stakeholder engagement and internal initiatives.
- Craft and disseminate media releases, manage media enquiries and train spokespeople.
- Produce a range of EPA publications, from e‑newsletters to corporate documents.
- Simplify complex technical information for diverse audiences and various communication platforms.
- Support digital channels, including the external website, intranet and social media.
- Provide communications advice to the Board Chair, Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team.
Required profile
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior communications role.
- Proven ability to work with technical subject matter and translate it into clear, engaging content.
- Strong media relations experience and understanding of current media trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across business units and senior leadership.
