Senior Adviser – Anti-Microbial Resistance Technical & Assessments

About the role

This senior advisory position focuses on anti‑microbial resistance (AMR) within New Zealand's regulatory framework. You will apply advanced scientific judgement to protect public health, trade and primary industries by assessing veterinary medicines and agricultural compounds.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate complex scientific data on veterinary medicines and agricultural compounds.
• Apply risk‑management principles under the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) Act.
• Prepare high‑quality regulatory reports and recommendations.
• Provide clear, timely AMR regulatory advice across the Ministry for Primary Industries.
• Identify emerging AMR risks and inform future regulatory approaches.

Required profile

• Relevant science degree in veterinary, agricultural, biological or chemical sciences.
• Experience assessing veterinary medicines or similar regulated products.
• Strong analytical capability and sound scientific judgement.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines, sectors and government.
• Clear, concise technical writing and communication skills.
