Security Engineer

About the role

As a Security Engineer at Southern Cross Health Insurance, you will protect the technology environment that supports our members across New Zealand. You will join a high‑performing security operations team that is expanding its capabilities with new tools and ways of working. The role offers real ownership of onboarding, customising and continuously improving security technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the onboarding, customisation and ongoing tuning of new security technologies.
• Monitor, administer and troubleshoot cyber‑defence systems such as IDS/IPS, antivirus and web filtering.
• Maintain and optimise rules, signatures and configurations across security platforms.
• Coordinate protection of high‑value assets and critical infrastructure, escalating issues as needed.
• Work proactively with value streams and technology teams to reduce exposure to known vulnerabilities.
• Contribute to the security community of practice through knowledge sharing, SOP development and policy consistency.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Security Engineer with the ability to hit the ground running.
• Strong networking background and deep understanding of network security concepts.
• Ability to collaborate with cyber security analysts and broader technology teams.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
