Security Engineer – Cloud & Ops (Mid‑Level)

About the role

This permanent position is with a leading New Zealand technology organisation that operates the national broadband network. As a Security Engineer – Cloud & Ops you will protect critical platforms, work across cloud, infrastructure and network security, and help shape the country’s cyber‑resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, investigate and respond to security incidents, threats and vulnerabilities.
• Design, implement and improve security controls for cloud, network, endpoint and ecosystem environments.
• Lead vulnerability management, collaborating with engineering teams to prioritise and remediate risks.
• Maintain and optimise security platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel, Defender suite, enterprise firewalls and email gateways.
• Create clear security procedures, baselines and documentation to support secure development lifecycles.

Required profile

• Valid New Zealand work rights.
• Approximately 3+ years of experience in a Security Engineer, SOC Analyst or Security Operations role.
• Ability to explain security risks to non‑technical stakeholders and provide constructive feedback under pressure.

Required skills

• Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM/KQL/Lucene) and Defender suite.
• Entra ID / Azure AD.
• Enterprise firewalls – experience with Fortinet or Palo Alto preferred.
• Python, Ansible.
• Windows and Linux environments.
