Scuba Diving Instructor

About the role

This summer session position, with potential to become full‑time, is an on‑site Scuba Diving Instructor role based in Hamilton. You will deliver beginner to advanced training, covering classroom theory, pool sessions, and open‑water dives, while ensuring safety and maintaining detailed training records.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct scuba training sessions (theory, pool, open‑water) for all skill levels.
• Plan and deliver PADI/SSI‑aligned courses.
• Assess diver skills and monitor safety during dives.
• Maintain accurate training and certification records.
• Perform equipment checks and basic gear maintenance before and after dives.
• Engage with customers, answer questions about courses and dive trips.
• Support day‑to‑day dive shop operations and promote an inclusive dive culture.

Required profile

• Strong scuba diving instruction experience, including course delivery and skill assessment.
• Confident in‑water abilities across varying conditions.
• Current PADI or SSI instructor certification (e.g., Open Water Scuba Instructor or higher) with active teaching status.
• Valid Worksafe COC medical clearance.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Flexibility to work weekends and collaborate within a small team.
• Legal right to work in New Zealand (work visa or residency).

Required skills

• PADI/SSI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification (or higher).
• Worksafe COC medical clearance.
• Current first aid/CPR certification (beneficial).
• Oxygen administration training (beneficial).
