Sample Reception Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Sample Reception Technician to join our fast‑paced laboratory in Lower Hutt. The role ensures that incoming food‑safety samples are logged, documented and ready for testing, supporting the integrity of our quality‑assurance workflow.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, log and triage all incoming samples into the laboratory information system.
• Verify that each sample meets required documentation and quality criteria before testing.
• Maintain accurate records in line with ISO 17025 and WorkSafe Act 2015 requirements.
• Prioritise sample workflow, schedule testing jobs and communicate status to the lab team.
• Support day‑to‑day laboratory operations and uphold health‑and‑safety standards.

Required profile

• Passion for science and environmental/food‑safety issues.
• Ability to follow documentation procedures and prioritise work.
• Attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication.
• Experience in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
• BSc in a relevant field preferred but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Laboratory techniques and basic chemistry knowledge.
• Computer skills for data entry and sample tracking.
• Problem‑solving ability and ability to work with quality‑compliance standards.
