Safety & Mission Assurance Engineer I

About the role

Rocket Lab is looking for a Safety & Mission Assurance Engineer I to support launch safety regulatory compliance. You will help ensure every mission meets safety standards, prepare required documentation, and assist during launch operations.

Key responsibilities

• Project‑manage mission submissions by coordinating inputs from multiple teams and delivering accurate regulatory documentation on schedule.
• Review safety‑critical component test reports, flag out‑of‑family parts, and manage Flight Safety System (FSS) summary reports and regulator communications.
• Prepare and submit payload permit applications for Rocket Lab payloads.
• Produce Payload Safety Assessments for low‑hazard payloads and work with operations to manage mission‑specific payload hazards.
• Ensure new spacecraft programs comply with orbital debris reduction requirements.
• Train to act as Launch Safety Official during launch operations, monitoring regulatory compliance.
• Perform internal audits, monitor compliance across business units, and ensure timely annual report submissions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
• At least 2 years of engineering experience focused on regulatory compliance, requirements, or safety.
• Knowledge of quality management systems.
• Strong project‑management, communication, and technical‑writing abilities.
