Roading Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Roading Engineer to lead and support forest roading projects across first and second rotation forests on the East Coast. You will work in varied terrain, including steep hills and complex soils, delivering safe, cost‑effective, and environmentally responsible infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, supervise and deliver forest road construction, upgrades and maintenance.
• Manage river‑crossing works, water and sediment controls, and slash‑trap installations.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best‑practice guidelines.
• Provide health and safety leadership on worksites.
• Supervise contractors to achieve high‑quality outcomes.
• Track budgets and monitor financial performance.
• Use RoadEng and related software for planning, modelling and reporting.
• Interpret harvest plans to design fit‑for‑purpose infrastructure.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in forestry roading, civil construction or earthworks.
• Experience working in challenging soils and terrain.
• Civil or forest engineering qualification (advantageous).
• Strong knowledge of best‑practice forest road engineering and NES‑CF standards.
• Understanding of environmental controls and erosion management.
• Confidence operating heavy machinery and earthworks equipment.
• Team‑player with the ability to work independently.
