Research Technician – Motor Neuron Disease (6‑month fixed term)

About the role
The School of Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland is seeking an experienced Research Technician on a six‑month fixed‑term contract. The role supports a research programme investigating the causes and mechanisms of Motor Neuron Disease, providing hands‑on experimental work, training, and laboratory administration.
Key responsibilities
- Support research studies by performing experiments on human brain tissue and/or cultured cells.
- Train postgraduate students to carry out these experiments safely and accurately.
- Procure, stock, and maintain laboratory materials and equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive lab records, including budget‑keeping and procurement logs.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, safety, and regulatory requirements applicable to the laboratory.
Required profile
- BSc (Hons) or MSc (or equivalent) in Biomedical Science, Biological Science, Pharmacology, Physiology or a related field.
- Relevant laboratory experience, particularly with mammalian cell culture or immunohistochemistry.
- Strong technical competence and the ability to manage laboratory operations.

What we offer
- Full‑time (37.5 hrs/week) six‑month fixed‑term contract.
- Salary range $63,600 – $74,846 NZD per annum, dependent on experience.
