Research Officer – Freshwater & Environmental Data Analyst

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Research Officer to support impactful freshwater research through environmental data analysis and collaboration with leading scientists. The role is part of a two‑year fixed‑term programme that directly informs freshwater and environmental management. You will work on a collaborative research programme based at our Hillcrest Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Assist and support research activities within a multidisciplinary freshwater and environmental research programme.
• Analyse, process, manage and interpret environmental, ecological, hydrological and water‑quality datasets.
• Collaborate with local and international research partners and leading scientists.
• Contribute to research outputs that inform real‑world environmental management decisions.

Required profile

• Master's degree in environmental sciences, freshwater science, ecology, hydrology or a related discipline, with a research thesis.
• Experience working with environmental, ecological, hydrological or water‑quality datasets.
• Demonstrated high‑level quantitative and analytical skills for data processing and interpretation.
• Self‑motivated, adaptable researcher with a strong interest in freshwater ecosystems and environmental science.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and tackle complex problems.

Required skills

• R programming for data analysis.
• Python programming for data analysis.
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or similar spatial analysis tools.

What we offer

• Two‑year fixed‑term contract (37.5 hours per week) on the Hillcrest Campus.
• Salary range $81,389 – $97,791 per year (prorated), based on experience.
