Renewals Lead (Transportation)

About the role

The Renewals Lead (Transportation) will spearhead the renewal of transport infrastructure across Whangārei, ensuring roads and related assets are maintained to the highest standards. Working from the council’s new purpose‑built facility in Central Whangarei, this full‑time, on‑site position offers the chance to shape the future of the city’s transport network.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate transport renewal projects from planning through delivery.
• Manage contracts and liaise with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.
• Assess road conditions, prioritize renewal works and develop implementation schedules.
• Ensure projects comply with safety, quality and environmental standards.
• Monitor budgets, timelines and performance metrics to achieve project objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transport, civil or structural engineering project delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage contracts.
• Strong understanding of road renewal processes and relevant regulations.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Whangārei and engage with community stakeholders.
